The
Association's Mission:
The Opticians Association Of Georgia is a professional association that
represents opticians and contact lens technicians throughout the state.
The Association's primary mission is to maintain high standards of practice
within the profession to protect the health and welfare of the public.
The Association seeks to accomplish its mission by protecting and expanding
the ability of its members to compete in the prescription eyewear
marketplace.
Strength In
Unity:
In today's complex legislative and regulatory climate, professional
occupations have learned that their survival often depends on collective
action and unity of purpose. The Association speaks for Georgia
opticians and contact lens technicians with a single voice. The
membership and participation of all opticians provide the Association with a
voice that is strong enough to command respect in the halls of government.
Information
Services:
The Association serves as a clearinghouse of information on a broad range
of subjects: legislative and regulatory issues, technical developments
within the industry, upcoming meetings and conferences, publications of
special interest to opticians and contact lens technicians, and the
activities of local sections. The Association's newsletter is
distributed free of charge to members in good standing.

The
President's Message

Cora Lester, OAG President
Greetings,
I am a 1972
graduate of the Optical Technology program at Macon Area Technical School, the
first program of formal training for opticians in the state of Georgia the
program was later moved to DeKalb Tech. In 1982 I was granted a license in the
state of Ohio. My career in optics began 40 years ago.
As Georgia
opticians, we have much to be excited about. The pass rate for Georgia’s
Ophthalmic Dispensing examination has increased from 40% to 70% since the
successful passing of House bill 241. This is the highest percentage rate that
I’ve seen on record for the state of Georgia.
The
Optician’s Association of Georgia is totally committed to providing service and
continuing education to Georgia Opticians. We are working to improve and provide
new membership services. In the weeks ahead we will begin to rollout new
services such as, online membership renewal and registration for conferences and
other OAG sponsored educational events, you will have the capability to print a
receipt after registering online. With the click of a mouse you can purchase
Optician association of Georgia items such as lapel pins, shirts, caps, jackets
etc., this will all be available online as a service to you.
Payments will be
processed through PayPal, the most trusted payment service on the internet.
Please visit Papal online to learn more about their service. On January 26th
the Opticians Association of Georgia held the 2011 Annual Eyeglass Tune-up at
the Georgia state capitol, for our Legislators.
Your officers and directors are
proud and honored to serve your state association. We’re looking for ways to
better serve you, we appreciate your comments.
